Moth Repellent Sachets For Your Craft Sale

Moth-repellent sachets - Using recycled materials

Moths dislike the strong smell of lavender, southernwood, tansy and woodruff, so use a combination of these dried plants to fill woollen sachets.
Use any recycled material to make the sachets, but if you have a favourite old woollen sweater you no longer wear, shrink it and use the soft, felted fabric.

Materials
  • shrunken, 100 per cent wool sweater (washed in a hot wash so that it shrinks and felts)
  • scissors
  • pins
  • cotton thread and needle, or sewing machine
  • recycled ribbons and small buttons from old clothes
  • a selection of dried lavender, rosemary, tansy, woodruff and southernwood. If you are not concerned with moths, any fragrant potpourri will do.
1 Cut down one side of the sweater and fold it out flat, correct side facing down. If you use the sleeves, cut them off and turn them inside out.
2 Cut out two rectangular shapes measuring 24cm x 18cm. Then pin the shapes together, correct sides facing inwards.
3 Sew around the edges, leaving a small seam and leaving the top or the cuff unsewn. Then turn the sachet the right way round.
4 Cut some small hearts from the spare fabric. Sew them with a button on to the sachet, fill the sachet with the mixture of dried herbs and secure with the ribbon.

Enjoy the project
