Velvet Evening Clutch Purse

The holiday season is the time for fancy evening bags. They make a great Christmas gift too.
Cut two rectangles 28cm x 39cm, one from velvet fabric and one from lining. Cut a rectangle 25cm x 36cm from heavyweight interfacing. Tack interfacing, centrally positioned, to wrong side of velvet. Fold edges of velvet over interfacing, making neat mitres at corners, and catchstitch to interfacing. Press under 1.5cm around edge of lining. Tack and slipstitch to velvet.
Fold up 11cm from bottom and slipstitch in place at sides. Attach a Velcro dot to fasten bag and decorate with a sparkly brooch or scatter with pearls or sequins.
