Innocent Woman Finally Released After 17 Years in Prison

Woman Exonerated After 17 Years Of Wrongful Imprisonment Has This Lawyer To Thank

Lawyer Deirdre O'Connor is a true hero. After learning that the key witness in a 1998 murder trial was known to be a serial liar, Deirdre helped Susan Mellen regain her freedom after she spent 17 years in prison for a crime she did not commit. On October 10, 2014, Ms. Mellen was released and finally reunited with her three children. Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric talks exclusively with Deirdre O'Connor about the case and its implications.

In this exclusive interview, Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric speaks with Susan Mellen who was wrongfully accused of murder and just spent the last 17 years away from her family in prison. While Susan now feels thankful and blessed to have regained her freedom, one can only wonder how many other innocent victims are currently imprisoned due to an imperfect criminal justice system.
